Standardized Tests - Optional, Test Blind or Required?
More and more schools are have chosen to become standardized test optional permanently, meaning they do not require an applicant to submit the SAT or ACT as part of the application. In addition, some schools, including all California state schools, have become test blind, meaning applicants cannot submit an ACT or SAT score, even if the student would prefer to submit. The increase in test optional or test blind schools occurred initially to react to the massive testing site cancellations caused by the pandemic, but now colleges are continuing test optional admissions to see if it puts less pressure on students while making college more accessible to a wider variety of students. Other schools, like MIT, Purdue, Harvard, and many Florida public schools, are bringing back the submission or test scores as a requirement. It is important to understand the requirements for each individual school, as they vary greatly. For the current list of test optional schools, click on this link: Test Optional School List
